Home

Like the head of a newborn
The day’s new sun crowns the horizon
Blood red, painful, hopeful
Blinding me as I walk to the train
It requires all my energy
To mind it, hand to the eyes
Squinting, head averted but always
aware of where it is.
As it reaches zenith
The sun has no use
for us mortals here at ground level
But will do what it will do
On each of its endless births
Day after day

For the dverse prompt of 11/13/19
