Sharon’s husband left
And Mimi’s wife didn’t
Bia can’t feed the baby
And while I was napping
A thousand people died.
The snow started at about 4
While I was standing in the garden
On the phone with my daughter
And wondering if it would be trivial
Or healing
To write about the snow.

Plague series #7 and Every Snowfall 2019-20 #23, and appropriate to the dverse poetics prompt of 3/24/20: catastrophe and enlightenment. Update: a friend of mine just sent Bia enough money for the April rent. People are good.

  1. This was like a gut punch…”And while I was napping
A thousand people died.” but it is the raw truth. I really like the factual approach as the poem starts out and yes, where do we draw the line at trivial with all that is going on.

  2. Anything to take our minds of this terrible situation – even snow, which I hate, and has been forecasted in the UK for next week! The line that brought a tear to my eye:
    ‘And while I was napping
    A thousand people died.’
