There is magic in the feel
Of my bare feet upon the floor
Or the warm spot in the bed,
the teapot when I pour
But nothing like the feeling
That I never knew before:
The terrifying magic
Of just walking out the door

  1. Wow, Xan, this poem hit home with me! I love the contrast between the comforting magic and the ‘terrifying magic / Of just walking out the door’. Years ago, I suffered from a form of agoraphobia, and the fear of the Corona virus is similar, as my fear wasn’t so much of open spaces but of crowds of (mostly adult) people. I still get it, so isolation is a double-edged sword: a godsend because I don’t have to face crowds of people and a sorrow because I can’t meet up with and touch friends and family.
