On a day
Much like today
Just four years ago
The light grey, the air chill
The wind autumnal
On a day much like today
I left my home
And moved
Just four years ago today
From there to here
And sat alone in the empty rooms
Much like today
Watching the fading light seep
Through unfamiliar windows

  1. Very haunting and dissociating in some lines, especially this:

    “Just four years ago today
    From there to here
And sat alone in the empty rooms…”

This is very well-written, and I can resonate with you here. I feel it’s rather solemn.

  2. I love the wistful grey tones of this poem, Xan, the repetition of grey and ‘much like today’ emphasises it, and the sparse description: ‘The light grey, the air chill / The wind autumnal’ that I know so well – it was like that here yesterday. I also remember all the times I sat in empty rooms ‘Watching the fading light seep / Through unfamiliar windows’. So evocative.

  3. I love the quiet simplicity in these lines. The loss is balanced by the new perspective. Although the day seems to echo the moving day, there is a power that reflection gives. Beautiful write.

  4. This speaks strongly of change in season as well as in self, autumn is here and hopefully will bring something good along 🙂 It is afterall a month with two full moons!
