The original:

The downpour woke me
Its steady thudding roar
Promising no dawn
Just an easing of the grey light
The sound primal yet unfamiliar
After so many rainless months

and a rewrite for the prompt at dverse of 10/21/20, from The Pale Impromptu by Samuel Greenberg:

The downpour woke me
Eyes jealousy resisting solitudes wish
Yellow dreams in the steady thudding roar
The drops a shattered charm bracelet
Its dim accuracy promising no dawn
Just an easing of the grey life
The sound primal yet unfamiliar
No pale heat. Fouls deviation
After so many rainless months
