The quadrille
I sat down to work
In the dining room
But I couldn’t focus
So I went into the kitchen
To make tea and
Sat back down
Remembering an hour later
The tea I had started to make
Which had gone cold

The full version
I sat down to work
Remotely,
At my dining room table
As I have for a year
(it has the best background for Zoom)
But I couldn’t focus
So I went into the kitchen
To make tea and
While it steeped
I sat down to work
Remotely,
At my dining room table
As I have for a year
(it has the best light)
And remembered an hour later
The tea I had started to make
Which had gone cold

  1. That’s funny what De said, because I think I wrote a poem titled Reheat a while back about coffee going cold!
I like the little asides in your full version that your dining room has the best background and lighting for zoom! (same)
    A fun, relatable, read! 💯

  2. Been there done that. I have a pot that I keep adding more boiling water from the tea kettle to after pouring a cup. The number of times I’ve gotten up in the morning with that pot sitting there stone cold… Nuking it isn’t a great idea either. I usually put it in my stainless steel water bottle and add True Lemon and drink it as iced tea.
