Such a little thing
That stops the world in its tracks
Like the first warm day of spring
Or the sound of a newborn’s laugh

It stops us in our tracks
This inconsequential thing
But stopped, too, by a simple mask
That keeps us from breathing in

This invisible thing
Like sunlight you can’t touch or hold
But you can stop it with the shade
Of your glasses or your hand
You can’t hold it touch it feel it
But it stops you where you stand
With your helpless hands
This tiny inconsequential invisible thing

That stopped a world
As surely as a newborn’s hungry crying
That set the world to dying
Now thundering back, again, with spring
Such a little thing
