There are fifty pears
At the top of the tree
Twenty-five feet from the ground
I need one of those tools
Or a ladder more solid
Than this rickety short one that’s lying around
Mind, fifty pears is more than I need
And I already picked a bushel or two
But those fifty pears are just taunting me
Their little pear tongues
Saying neener-neener
We’re out of reach to you.

for the dverse poetics prompt of 9/21/21: fruit
