Strung across the garden access
On thread so delicate
It might be spun by a god
Indeed for a goddess you are named-
Arachne!
Delicately and effusively limbed
Massive to my eyes
Yet only (only?) thumb-sized
You possess a power unrelated
To our relative mass
I stand before this barrier
Nonplussed that I could sweep it away
With a wave of my own massive hand
And yet, am thrust in terror
At this encounter
As you stop me in my tracks
Trash in hand
I stand here thwarted at your power
To turn me away
From where you hang, and I, helpless
stand

  1. This is gorgeously rendered, Xan! 😀 I love the smooth flow and rhyming and resonate with; “I stand before this barrier/Nonplussed that I could sweep it away/With a wave of my own massive hand/And yet, am thrust in terror/At this encounter/As you stop me in my tracks.” Thank you so much for writing to the prompt 💝💝

  2. Excellent portrayal of that 8-legged creature t hat leaves us in awe of her web, while striking terror in our heart!!
